About Us

Welcome to Mayflower Makes, my quaint craft venture.

I’m Steph, and the joy of creation has been my lifelong companion. From my earliest days, I embraced the art of knitting and crocheting, and during my teenage years, I stumbled upon the captivating world of macramé. Making pot hangers became my pocket money pursuit. Given the limited natural cords available at the time, I even experimented with cold-dyeing macramé ropes for a splash of colour.

Today, the resurgence of macramé has brought an array of cord types and colours, marking the inception of my journey as a craft entrepreneur. In my adult years, I unearthed the wonders of working with carded wool and needle felting. The magic lies in the fact that no two creations are identical, each piece emerging as a unique embodiment of my artistic expression. While it’s not a swift craft, the time I invest in each creation pays off in crafting wonders inspired by fantasy, nature, and imagery. Among my cherished creations are needle-felted sheep, where adorning a sheep’s back with wool is an immensely gratifying experience, and even though they’re not real, once the eyes are in place, they come alive, each deserving of a name.

Nature, with its elements, crystals, shells, and stones, forms a pivotal role in my artistic endeavours. My profound connection to the great outdoors fuels my creativity, urging me to incorporate natural elements into my crafts. Engaging with fellow enthusiasts who share a passion for these crafts has led me to host workshops for over a decade. These creative gatherings are at Henstead Arts & Crafts Centre, though I also traverse to clubs, groups, and associations, guiding members, particularly beginners, in crafting their own pieces from my diverse range.
